This is for a very small preemie body length 4-8 inches

Mary, this pattern would work better if you cast on 41 stitches. With the first wrap I made, I ended up with an odd number of eyelets because there was no way to get a yarn-over stitch to stay in place at the end of the row. I ended up increasing a stitch on a later row, and since the last stitch on the first eyelet row came out wider than it should, I used it as an eyelet hole to even things up.

Adding that extra stitch and knitting one at the end of the row worked much better for the other wraps I made after this.

Thanks, Anna. I skimmed the pattern and didn't see the hat. there is no space between the 2 and I took it as one pattern.

Yes pattern of hat is with pattern, I just did not make the separation in the pattern with bold letters Sorry about that.
